Message from Mark Farrugia, General Manager

3 April 2025

As we head into the last quarter of the financial year, high on our client’s agenda is the increasing workers compensation insurance premiums alongside the overall increasing costs of doing business. These costs can be reduced by using simple strategies to address key areas that can contribute to workers compensation costs. A key area businesses can focus on to help combat premium costs and worker compensation claims is reducing overall injury rates. Two factors that can impact workplace injury rates:

Workplace culture

There is a correlation between workplace culture and injury rates, making it a key priority for any business who wants to minimise cost and be ahead of competitors. A strong workplace culture creates an environment where risks are identified and addressed proactively which is an effective way to lower injury rates. Leadership plays a crucial role, and the management team needs to set the standard. Due to limited experience in leading these initiatives, we often find that managers need support to effectively drive a strong workplace culture.

Preventative workplace injury management

Recently we have introduced Occupational Health and Safety/ Work Health and Safety services to assist clients in preventative workplace injury management. Nick Konstantos is our OHS/WHS expert, with over 20 years’ experience working for multiple workers compensation insurers and on the employer side, practising his trade.

While many businesses have safety measures in place, our auditing process has been able to identify gaps and areas for improvement. Safe Scope sees the investment in OHS / WHS as essential to not only a positive impact on premiums but, most importantly, for the safety of your workforce.

Safe Scope has seen an increase in new clients seeking our services due to the importance of improving safety and reducing injuries within the workplace. This should be every organisation’s goal, as it has positive impacts throughout their whole organisation.

If you know others in your industry facing similar challenges, we would love the opportunity for an introduction so we can provide support to improve their performance in this area also.

Let 2025 be the year we work together to create a happy and safe environment for your team and ease your concerns of increasing premiums and injury management throughout the year.
